I want to clarify that when I wrote this article, I was addressing spiritual identity in Christ — something I’ve been teaching and writing about for over 40 years. The focus was on who we become spiritually when we place our faith in Jesus. I was not speaking of biolgical or gender issues.

As to biological reality, the biblcial narrative indicates that God created two sexes — male and female — and He affirms that design.

At the same time, that truth does not mean I (or any Christian) should be unloving toward those who have questions or struggles about gender. We are called to be compassionate. But compassion that avoids God’s truth is not true compassion at all.

Above all, God loves every person deeply and has great compassion for anyone who is struggling with questions about identity. And He has called each of us (and that certainly includes me) to repent of our sins and turn to Him — trusting in Christ’s death and resurrection — so we can be brought into His family, where we find our ultimate identity. He has also called each of us (and that certainly includes me) to accept the truth and reality of His Word over what our feelings or emotions may tell us. We all have areas where we must cling to God’s Word rather than our feelings. I certainly have had some of my own.

This isn’t a topic I normally write about, but if you have a more specific question, you’re welcome to contact me at Brian@LivingPraying.com.

Thanks for reading.
