Jesus said,

If a thought or idea you’re considering contradicts God’s Word—even subtly—it’s not from Him. For example, if you’re feeling led to do something dishonest, manipulative, or selfish, you can confidently rule that out as not being the voice of God.
God will never lead you to violate His Word. That’s a key filter. If it’s not aligned with Scripture, it’s not from the Lord.

Let’s be honest: we all know someone who loves to share their opinion on everything but may not be spiritually grounded. That’s not the person you want weighing in on what you believe might be a word from the Lord.
Instead, surround yourself with people who will help you discern God’s direction—those who can look past personal bias and help you see the bigger picture of what God might be doing.
In many cases, God confirms His voice through the voices of faithful believers around us. You don’t have to figure it out alone—God often speaks through a community of spiritually minded believers can help us identify if we really have heard God’s voice.

God often uses our circumstances as part of how He communicates His direction to us. While not every situation is a direct message from God, sometimes the doors He opens—or closes—can be key indicators of His will.
For example, if you’re in a season where finances are tight and you’re barely covering your bills, that might not be the moment to go out and buy a brand-new luxury car. Practical circumstances can sometimes reveal wise boundaries—and even God’s protection.
In Scripture, Jesus gave His disciples practical guidance that was based on how people responded to the message:
If a town welcomed them and received the gospel, they were to stay and minister.
If the town rejected the message, they were to move on.
(Luke 9:1–6)
That’s a clear example of God using circumstances—people’s responses—to guide His servants. No fasting retreat or lengthy waiting period was required in that moment. Just faithful observation and obedience.
